“The State of Catholic Labor and How to Change It” Webinar Announced

The “ministerial exception” is a legal doctrine that exempts faith groups from many labor and antidiscrimination laws. This has hurt workers employed in the sector, particularly within the Roman Catholic Church. Join us for “The State of Catholic Labor and How to Change It,” on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. Eastern, a webinar co-sponsored by DSA’s Religious Socialism Working Group and Call to Action.

A panel discussion will feature three workers discussing their experiences inside the church, a Catholic labor and justice scholar, and organizers working to make change. We’ll discuss power structures within the church and how they intersect with racism, sexism and anti-LGBTQ bias. This educational event will focus on what ordinary Catholics can do to express solidarity with the church’s workforce and to push for reform.
